Brian Grasky and the Creation of Grasky Endurance Coaching
As an athlete, I’m retired...sadly. I still get out and rip it up here and there, but my focus is coaching. I was an elite amateur and professional triathlete and mountain bike racer. I raced everything in multisport from Ironman to XTERRA to short course to draft-legal Olympic. I've been lucky to have had a great sport career so far: I stood on the podium in Kona, have been to the Best of the US Championships, and have been a member of both Team USA and the Air Force Triathlon Team. My first triathlon was in 1992, and I've completed over 200 multisport events and won more than 15. I've been coaching since 2002.
However, in May 2007, while in the lead pack in a national mountain bike points series race, I took a spill, severely breaking my leg. When I rolled to a stop, my knee was pointing north and my toes pointing south. Even with my limited military medical training I knew this is bad. Many complications and infections (and 27 pins and screws) later, my racing days are over...but this was the catalyst that allowed Grasky Endurance Coaching to be born!
I am a passionate Coach, taking more joy in seeing my athletes meet their goals than in my own racing. I am a USAT Level 3 certified coach (one of only 19 in the US) and coach athletes locally in one-on-one work with technique and form, and elsewhere privately through written training plans using Trainingpeaks and other software. My athletes have gone on to World, National, and State Championships in triathlon, duathlon, Ironman, XTERRA, and cycling. I was the head coach of The University of Arizona TriCats for 7 years bringing them from a club team to National Podiums, and head coach of the USAT Club RACE Tucson.
Personally I enjoy anything outdoors and still get out and swim/bike/run. Trail running and mountain biking are my stress relief. I graduated from the US Air Force Academy and spent 10 years active flying F-16s before transferring into the Air National Guard in Tucson. I spent 5 years full-time in 'The Guard' and now serve as a part-timer--a weekend warrior serving a few days each month. Nothing matches flying F-16s at 600mph at 500 feet above the ground but I am now flying remotely pilot aircraft (drones) in a command role. My wife Stephanie is a great triathlete, virtually undefeated in AZ, and is a great mother to 4 kids, including our little Ryder born in April 2015.
We built GEC to provide a team of experts to help athletes reach their goals effectively, efficiently, and in style. We provide almost anything you will need to reach your goals. What we don’t provide, we help you to find the right people (chiropractic, medical, massage, etc). My coaches are proven athletes and expert coaches. In addition to being certified by USAT, each coach goes through a curriculum and testing process that I oversee, so each meets the requisite knowledge and skill level to be a GEC coach. I have screened the coaches personally and continually so that I can comfortably say that you are getting a top-level coach with anyone at GEC.
Our training programs are efficient, our coaching is personal, our camps are challenging, and our attitude is about having fun and training right. Professional Coaching, Personalized Training Camps; Good Times!
