Prior to 2011 I was self-coached in all of my athletic indeavors, including triathlon. In 2010 I raced several Xterra off-road triathlons with moderate success. It was my first full season after returning from a complete shoulder reconstruction in 2008/2009. I competed in the 2010 Xterra Mountain Championship race, at which I raced well enough to be invited to compete on Team USA at the first ever ITU Cross (Offroad) Triathlon World Championships to be held in Extremadura, Spain, in April 2011. After accepting the invitation, I decided to take my triathlon racing to the next level and started searching for a coach.
After interviewing numerous coaches, I chose Brian Grasky of Grasky Endurance Coaching as my triathlon coach. Brian has a tremendous amount of experience in the triathlon world, having raced in every triathlon format offered. Brian also brought an immense amount of mountain biking and Xterra race experience to the table, having competed and been crowned as an Xterra Regional Champion himself. My 2011 season focus was Xterra offroad racing, as well as the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships, but I was also entered to compete in Ironman Coeur d'Alene. I chose Brian as my coach because I was confident that he had the ability to create a training and race plan that would take me to my full potential as an athlete while incorporating all of my racing and training goals for the entire season.
My 2011 triathlon season was incredible. I made a huge leap in performance from 2010 to 2011, and the main reason was training with Brian. He created a training and racing plan that allowed me to realize my full potential, scoring 6 overall and 10 age-group wins in 2011. I can't wait to see how much further I progress in 2012, and I'm confident that Brian will help me achieve my goals!
